The central Swedish city of Östersund is famous for two things. They lost the vote for hosting the Olympic Games three times and they house, Storsjöodjuret, the famous cousin of “Nessie” from Loch Ness.

All of you who can build a recreation room in your sleep or fix a radio car in the dark can look away now. All of you who can weld, plane, fix, drill and repair can turn the page, because this will be of no interest to you. This piece of rambling is dedicated to two tools that have helped people like me. Kidnapped, eaten and spit out by multinational media companies, hip-hop is not what it used to be.

Today, the standard money-hungry rappers who sing female-degrading texts to ready-made beats top the charts. Meanwhile the underground movement has become stronger. As a reaction against mainstream hip-hop, a new generation of American rappers who are strongly critical of the society they have grown up in are suspected to exist.
